• The NHL announced the first two expansion cities, each of which would pay a $2 million fee to join the league: Los Angeles and St Louis

• The news teams would begin play in either 1967-68 or 1968-69

• Four spots remained open with the following cities in contention: Baltimore, Houston, Minneapolis/St Paul, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Francisco/Oakland, Vancouver, and Washington
