•	After months of contention, the group led by Bing Crosby and Barry Van Gerbig reported they had “reached a verbal understanding” with the management of the Western Hockey League’s San Francisco Seals to merge their efforts to get an NHL expansion team

•	NHL president Clarence Campbell said a major hurdle to granting the Seals an NHL franchise was the possibility that the league would have to compensate the WHL financially
